The Situation

This case study examines our approach to identifying and securing a talented Associate for a Fund specialising in Venture Debt facilities focusing on the high-growth Tech and SaaS SME sectors.

Challenges

One of the primary challenges in this recruitment assignment was finding a candidate with the necessary leveraged modelling experience who was willing to work in a smaller team environment rather than a large institution. 

The task was to attract an experienced professional who recognised the value of deal exposure, professional development opportunities, and the team culture and growth vision offered by the Fund. 

Finding someone who put as much value on this as they did the 'employer name', was also a way of ensuring that we were looking for the right type of personality to match our client.  

Method

In addition to a thorough Search to identify a qualified long-list of candidates, we spent a lot of time engaging with each individual to get an understanding of their personality and workplace preferences.  

Finding individuals who were transaction-experienced across Tech and SaaS sectors was only step one. Our deeper strategy involved highlighting the level of deal exposure and professional development opportunities which made this role unique. By appealing to these factors, we were able to zone in on candidates that we felt had the necessary culture match required for an equally beneficial placement. 

Outcome

The recruited Associate quickly proved their capabilities and contributions within the Fund. As their experience and skills grew, they were rewarded through promotion to Director. Taking on further responsibilities and running their own deals. 

The Associate is actively developing their own origination network and contributing as a more central figure in the team.
